CEDAR RAPIDS — The Jefferson J-Hawks have tripled their pleasure from a year ago.

The J-Hawks blasted Dubuque Hempstead, 42-6, Thursday night at Kingston Stadium for their third victory of the season.

Jefferson finished 1-and-8 in 2025, so they’ve made significant improvement in the victory column this year. The Hawks are 3-5 with one game remaining.

“I was happy with the way we came out and competed. We attacked,” said Coach Ed Miles.

Miles said there were some “ugly” moments in the game with mistakes, but the J-Hawks scored on offense, defense and special teams on a blustery night in southwest Cedar Rapids.

They ignited the continuous clock with a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Bosco Mwanya intercepted a pass and raced 60 yards for a touchdown. He also scored when he recovered a blocked punt in the end zone.

Tyree Turner produced a pair of touchdowns with an 8-yard catch and a 61-yard run.

Octavian Walton tallied on a 3-yard run and Derek Robertson scored on a 1-yard keeper. Tyler Bartlett kicked all six PATs.

Despite some mistakes, Miles said “We stayed focused and did our jobs. There are still some things to fight for.”
