Information We Collect
Information You Give Us
- Account and membership information. When you create an account or purchase a membership, we collect your name, email address, username, password (stored encrypted), and billing address.
- Payment information. Membership payments are processed by Stripe through FluentCart. Your full card number is transmitted directly to Stripe and is never stored on our servers. We retain only limited transaction records — the last four digits, card brand, transaction ID, amount, and date.
- Newsletter subscriptions. If you subscribe, we collect your email address and any name you provide.
- Comments. If you comment on an article, we collect the comment content, your display name, email address, and IP address. Comments and display names are publicly visible.
- Messages you send us. Contact form submissions, story tips, corrections, and emails, including anything you choose to include in them.
Information Collected Automatically
- Device and usage data. IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, referring URL, pages viewed, time spent, and links clicked.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See “Cookies and Tracking” below.
- Advertising performance data. We run our own sponsor and advertising system, which records ad impressions and clicks. This is used in aggregate to report performance to sponsors — we do not provide sponsors with information identifying individual readers.
Information We Don’t Collect
We don’t knowingly collect Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, biometric data, precise geolocation, or health information.

Do Not Track: Browsers may send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no industry-standard response to these signals, and we do not currently respond to them.

Because we use the Meta Pixel and similar advertising technologies, our sharing of data with advertising partners may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under certain state privacy laws, including in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and Iowa. Residents of those states have the right to opt out — see “Your Privacy Rights” below.
We may also disclose information when required by law, subpoena, or court order; to protect our rights, safety, or property; or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your personal information
- Port your data to another service
- Opt out of targeted advertising and the sale or sharing of your personal information
- Withdraw consent for marketing communications at any time
- Appeal a denial of any of these requests
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at https://eckersportsreport.com/contact/. We will verify your identity before acting on a request and will respond within the timeframe your state’s law requires.
You will never be discriminated against for exercising a privacy right.
Email opt-out: Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. Note that we will still send transactional messages about your account and billing.
Account holders can view and update most of their information directly in their account settings.
Data Retention
- Account and membership records: Retained while your account is active and for [7] years after cancellation, to satisfy tax and accounting obligations.
- Payment records: Retained for [7] years as required by tax law.
- Comments: Retained indefinitely unless you request deletion.
- Newsletter subscriptions: Retained until you unsubscribe, plus a suppression record to honor your opt-out.
- Analytics data: Retained per Google Analytics settings (currently [24] months).
Data Security
We use industry-standard safeguards including HTTPS encryption, encrypted password storage, access controls, and a PCI-compliant payment processor. That said, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.
If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by Iowa law and any other applicable law.
Children’s Privacy
The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Membership accounts require the account holder to be at least 18, or to have a parent or guardian’s permission and involvement.
A note on our coverage: We report on high school athletics, which means we publish the names, photographs, statistics, and athletic performance of student-athletes who may be minors. This is standard journalistic practice for sports reporting on public interscholastic competition and is separate from the personal information we collect from Site users. If you are a parent or guardian with a concern about the coverage of a specific student-athlete, please contact us at https://eckersportsreport.com/contact/.
Third-Party Links
Our Site links to sponsor websites, school and league sites, and other third-party pages. We aren’t responsible for their privacy practices. Review their policies before providing information.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last Updated” date above. Material changes will be announced on the Site or by email to registered members. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
