MANCHESTER — Mount Vernon-Lisbon’s cross-country teams were dominate forces Tuesday afternoon at Hart Ridge Golf Course, as the Mustangs swept both the girls’ and boys’ team titles of the West Delaware Invitational.
MV-L’s Evelyn Moeller breezed to the individual title at the meet with a 17:26.6, a full 1:11.3 ahead of runner-up Aaliyah Causey of Center Point-Urbana’s 18:37.9. The Mustangs had one other top-10 finisher in ninth-place Miranda Sellner.
CP-U was fifth in the team race with 134 points, while Marion was sixth with 153. Emerson Dabroski was the Wolves’ top finisher, grabbing fifth-place in 20:02.2.
MV-L scored just 69 points, nearly 30-points over runner-up and state power Maquoketa Valley, who finished with 96.
On the boys’ side, Marion’s Collin Cook edged Mustang Kyler Happel by two-and-a-half seconds – 16:26.5 to 16:29.1 – to win the individual title, but the team race was anything but close.
Mount Vernon-Lisbon scored 59 to runner-up Anamosa’s 88 and Marion’s 118, placing four runners in the top 12.
Springville was seventh with 179 and Center Point-Urbana 11th with 277.
Along with Happel, Anthony Armstrong was seventh in 17:04.4, Connor Teague eighth in 17:07.5, and Casey Swart was 12th in 17:29.4.
