Prairie rises to 10th in RPI ratings
The Prairie Hawks climbed another notch from 11th to 10th in Class 5A in the weekly RPI football power ratings Monday.
The Hawks (6-2) host Dubuque Senior (2-6) in the final game of the regular season Friday and could climb into the top 8 with a victory. Typically, teams rated 8th or better get to host a game in the 16-team playoffs that start next week.
Kennedy (5-3) is rated 17th this week and needs an upset victory at No.7 Dallas Center-Grimes (6-2) to clinch a playoff spot.
Xavier (8-0) remains No.1 in the Class 4A RPI numbers. The Saints finish the regular season at home Friday by hosting Mason City (1-7).
Mount Vernon (6-2) is rated No.9 in Class 3A. The Mustangs host No.8 Davenport Assumption (6-2) Friday in the final game of the regular season in a matchup worthy of a first-round playoff game.
All of the smaller schools begin the playoffs this Friday in 32-team fields.
Vinton-Shellsburg (4-5) visits second-ranked Alburnett (7-1) in the 2A playoffs. Van Buren (4-4) plays at sixth-ranked North Linn (7-1) in Class A. Springville (4-5) visits No.1 Gladbrook-Reinbeck (8-0) in 8-Player.
