Big night for seniors as Lions top West

MARION – On a night where Linn-Mar had to turn to a freshman quarterback, it was the senior class that led the way.

Senior running backs Hud Turner and Bandley Duncan-Porter had a hand in all of the Lions points. Turner scored three rushing touchdowns and threw for a two-point conversion. Duncan-Porter had TD run and booted a pair of field goal, lifting the Lions to a 35-28 win over Iowa City West on Friday night at Linn-Mar Stadium.

The Lions, who close at 3-6, were forced to start freshman quarterback Andrew Roling after his older brother Derek was injured in last Friday’s loss at Cedar Falls.

The younger Roling played well in his first varsity start, but it was a night for the Lion seniors to shine

Turner rushed for 174 yards on 26 carries. Another senior, three-year starter Holden Heidemann, was in on 11 total tackles to lead the defense.

Iowa City West finishes at 4-5.
