Lancers break down Warriors in week two

ELDRIDGE — Cedar Rapids Washington’s defense flexed early, but it was North Scott offense’s
that had the mightier muscles.

Despite forcing turnovers on five first-half possessions, the Warriors could not find any offense
in a 21-3 loss to the Lancers in Eldridge Friday.

Washington had 12 possessions in the game and did not run a play inside of North Scott’s 20-
yard line all night.

The Warriors’ lone points came on a 47-yard field goal by senior Logan Barton with eight
minutes remaining in the second quarter.

By that point, North Scott already had a 7-0 lead on a 23-yard end zone ball from quarterback
Miller Haedt to wide receiver Ryder Maher.

Haedt left the game due to injury in the second quarter, and the Lancers entrusted junior Conlan
Panther with quarterback duties.

Panther threw one touchdown pass — a 68-yard screen catch and run by junior Landon
Gronewold — and ran one in himself to post North Scott’s second-half points.

The Warriors could not muster any offense. The team went three-and-out five times, punted
twice, lost two fumbles and turn the ball over on downs twice in its non-scoring drives.

The Lancers swept this non-district series having won 38-16 last year at Kingston Stadium.
Washington, 1-1 on the season, travels to Clinton, another Mississippi Athletic Conference
school, next Friday.

Clinton scored a late touchdown to steal a win from Washington 20-17 last year.
