Four Ecker Sports Report teams will open the postseason Friday night as the 2A, 1A, A and Eight-Player divisions open the State playoffs.

A pair of area teams will open against each other in a 2A first-round battle.

Second-ranked Alburnett (7-1) will play host to Vinton-Shellsburg (4-4) at the Smith Complex Friday at 7 pm. The Pirates come in with their lone loss of the season coming at the hands of top-ranked 1A Iowa City Regina 28-12. The Vikings picked up just their third-ever postseason berth Friday night with a dramatic goal line stand to preserve a 25-20 win over Denver in a winner-take-all contest for the fourth playoff berth out of District 2A-4.

In Class A, North Linn (7-1) finished second in a wild Class A-4 race. The Lynx will play host to the Warriors of Van Buren (4-4) in a 7 pm contest.

And in Eight-Man, Springville (4-5) got down to arch-rival Central City Friday night before coming back to beat the Wildcats 34-28 and pick-up a spot in the playoffs. The Orioles hit the road Friday to take on Gladbrook-Reinbeck (7-1) in their first-round contest.

Classes 4A and 3A will play Week 9 games this week, with their postseason opening — along with the lower division’s second-round — October 30.
