Lisbon comes up short against Cascade
By Isaac Stevens
LISBON – Despite many scoring opportunities from Lisbon, Cascade emphasized on critical mistakes, beating Lisbon 24-6.
The Lions quarterback Tyler Kubovec finished the night with 142 passing yards. Their star running back Ryder Meeks ended with 149 yards of offensive production. Yet nothing seemed to fall for Lisbon.
In the first quarter, the Lions were 20 yards away from their end zone. However a Cascade sack on fourth down prevented a score. When Lisbon got possession again they made it to the 20 yard line yet again, but this time a fumble happened.
Two critical plays that could have shifted the game.
Cascade used this to its momentum, and quarterback Carson Hummel connected to wide receiver Tanner Topping for two separate first quarter touchdowns.
“We need to hammer on focus and execution,” said head coach Alex Dean. “That’s for everybody. That’s not just the kids, but coaches too.”
Through the second and third quarter the Lions held the Cougars to just three points, a lone field goal.
Linemen Cameron Prasil and Caleb Brown held down the fort for the defense, each tallying a sack a piece.
En route to passing for 142 yards, Kubovec said he spent all week preparing for the rain.
“The ball was going to be wet, I knew that was gonna happen,” Kubovec said. “So I kept my hands dry, trusting my (offensive linemen), and trust my wide receivers to get open and just throw it to them.”
The sophomore quarterback threw for 11 completions in 22 attempts.
Meeks, who ran for 98 yards and received 51, was the starting quarterback in last year’s matchup against Cascade. Where Lisbon eventually lost 42-0.
“We have a lot more energy,” said Meeks when talking about what is different about this year’s team. “We are more locked in at practice, we want it more. I feel like we came out of the game hot.
The only score for the Lions would be because of Meeks. Who in the fourth quarter found an open hole and ran for a 21 yard touchdown.
Next Friday Lisbon will host MFL MarMac, and will look to climb to 3-2.
