About The Ecker Sports Report

The Ecker Sports Report is an independent newsroom covering high school and college sports across Cedar Rapids and the surrounding Eastern Iowa communities. We’re new as a publication, but not new to this beat. The reporters behind this site have spent decades on Iowa sidelines, in Iowa gyms, and on deadline for Iowa readers — and we started this outlet to keep doing that work the way it should be done: locally, thoroughly, and without apology for caring about a Tuesday night JV game.

Our promise is simple. If a team in our coverage area plays, we want it on the record. Not just the ranked programs and the state qualifiers, but the whole landscape — the small-school seasons, the roster stories, the kids whose names would otherwise never appear anywhere but a scorebook.
